NC
State University has recently established two state-of-the-art
Genomic Sciences facilities; The Genome Research Laboratory (GRL)
was officially opened on June 2, 2000, on Centennial Campus, as
part of a CALS initiative here at NC State. This facility provides
access to the latest equipment for DNA fragment analysis, high
throughput automated DNA sequencing and gene expression analysis
using DNA microarray technology. The facility provides training
and guidance in the use of the equipment, allowing students in
Genomic Sciences to gain practical experience as part of their
education.
In
addition, the laboratory provides a basis for faculty collaborations
with industry and other programs throughout the university. For
more information visit www.cals.ncsu.edu/grl
or contact Dr.
Bryon Sosinski, GRL Director.
The
Bioinformatics Research Center (BRC) is also situated on Centennial
campus, in the same building as the GRL. It opened in the spring
of 2001, and houses faculty, staff and students in bioinformatics,
as well as some industry collaborators.
The close proximity to the GRL facilitates a close working relationship
between the functional genomics and bioinformatics programs for
both research and training activities.
The Center is concerned with the management and interpretation
of genomic data; including sequence data, marker genotype data,
and expression array data. Emphasis is placed on the development
of theoretical tools for genomic data analysis. For
more information visit http://bioinformatics.ncsu.edu,
or contact Dr. Zhao-Bang Zeng,
BRC Director.
